I will not even talk about, why the mailing list is essential for your business. We all know that it is important because you have full control over (eg. there are no algorithms – who will see your content, like on Facebook).
If you don’t have your mailing lists yet, it’s a perfect time to do it now. In this post, I’ll show you how to do it. And… this is not all, if you want to offer a freebie in opt-in, then you can download a free guide on how to do this.
I will use MailChimp (for free account you can create only one list, but for a start it is enough). If you don’t already have an account, then create it first, then follow these step by step guide.

1 | CREATE A LIST
First, create a list (it probably already exist), where we will collect all subscribers email. You can create it under the Audience.
2 | EDIT FORM
When a list is created, you can edit the subscription form. You can find it: Audience »View Contacts » Signup forms » Form builder
Edit the information you want to collect. Don’t forget on GDPR (you can add the GDPR field or add it under Audience » View Contacts» Settings » Audience name and defaults » Enable GDPR fields).
At this step, it is very important to think carefully about what information you want to collect. For example: if you want to personalize your emails with names, then you have to collect names of subscribers as well. Keep in mind, that form shouldn’t be too long, this can be the reason that no one will opt-in.
3 | Thank you page
When a person opt in successfully, he/she will see thank you page. You can edit it under the Confirmation thank you page.
4 | Share or embed form
Once the form is ready, you should share it via the link and/or embed it on your website.

To embed it on a website, you can find the embed code:
Audience » View Contacts » Signup forms » Embedded forms
5 | SEND MAIL
It’s time to send your first mail. You can send mail as a campaign under: Campaigns » Create campaign » Email
Campaign Name – select the campaign name and add all the necessary information:
Choose who you want to send to – to everyone who opt in (select it here):
Then add fields under From – this will be visible to the recipients, so add your name and email address:
In the next section Subject, add subject and a preview text (this is a very important part because it depends on whether the recipient will open the mail or not):
In the next step – Design Email first select the template for your email:
Then create your first mail:
Before you send it, I recommend that you test it in Preview and Test:
Then, you can send a mail or schedule it:
6 | OFFER FREEBIE
