Tell us a little bit about yourself…
I am a multi-passionate business owner and founder of The Content Edit. I loves to help female business women to build their business, become more visible and live the life they deserve. Over the last 9 years I have been on quite a business journey and now I love to help others using my knowledge and experience to help my clients create incredible content & build a business which gives them freedom & flexibility. Alongside this, I have also founded a number of product based businesses. I use all of this experience to help my clients. I 100% love business, I love to learn & I love to share.
What inspired your career?
I started working in my families business when I was 14 so I saw first-hand a lot about business and how it is possible to do something you love for a living. After leaving school I started working 9-5 jobs and after a number of years, I felt really unhappy & like I was destined for more! I already had bought my own house but I decided to go to university to do something I loved for 3 years. I worked a number of jobs and started freelancing, this was really the beginning of my business journey. When I graduated in Creative Writing & English Literature I had some freelance clients which kept growing, I started my own lifestyle blog & learnt about social media. I become obsessed with all things content creation. Since then I have pivoted a few times, tried different things but I’ve always been focused on building a brand I love and being creative along the way.
What does your day look like? Walk us through your typical day…
No two days look the same, right now I am in Barbados taking some time out to travel but when I am at home a day might consist of waking up about 5.30 with my boyfriend, Keil before he leaves for the day, then I usually write out my gratitudes, my goals and say some affirmations. Recently, I’ve also been trying out some meditations as well. Then I post to Instagram and engage with people on my accounts (I have quite a few for my different businesses). I usually do a couple of hours on the laptop, it might be writing blog posts or planning for client calls before getting dressed. I like to mix up my working environment sometimes so once I am ready for the day I will walk about 30 minutes to a coffee shop for a bit more work before meeting my mum for lunch & she will drop me back at home. Then in the afternoon I will plan my content or take calls before finishing for the day where I usually end up listening to a podcast as I do some household jobs and then head to the gym.
What is your favorite failure that sets you up for later success?
If something doesn’t work out straight away, such as outsourcing, rather than giving up & believing it won’t work instead try & find a solution, talk to people, look into why it’s not working & keep going. It might end up in the long run being the best thing you’ve done to grow your business.
When you feel unfocused or not motivated what do you do?
I time myself and it almost always works to get me refocused! I will set my phone alarm for 50 minutes, decide on exactly what I am going to work on and only do that. It’s amazing how much you can get done when you are focused. I will take a 10 minute break and then do it again. I don’t do this every day but it really makes a difference to my focus & productivity when I do.
If you could send a mini message to all people, what would it be?
You deserve to live a life which makes you happy and it never hurts to have multiple sources of income!
You deserve to live a life
What advice would you give to someone starting a business journey?
Get started today, be consistent with your message & keep going every single day. You can learn & ask for help along the way but right until you start you won’t know what you need to do. It could be the best decision of your life!
